Creative Solutions to Everyday Problems

Our disc magnets have helped our customers solve a variety of interesting problems over the years. The following are three of many solutions found:
Challenge: A hockey coach wanted to hold goals in place during practice, but not be in the way of other activities throughout the day at the rink.
Solution: He inserted our D1208, 2" (50.8mm) dia x 1" (25.4mm) thick, N50 Rare Earth Neodymium Disc Magnet into the vertical pipe of the goal. He then drilled a 2” diameter hole in the concrete floor, where the goal would be placed. He put the same magnet within the floor and covered it back up with concrete. Now when these two magnets meet, the goal is able to be held in place but not strong enough that anyone would get hurt when crashing into it. What a perfect solution! Way to think outside of the box, Coach!
Challenge: A customer was decorating a 200-year-old home on the national registry and needed a way to display the owner’s collection of antique pots and pans, without putting any holes in the walls.
Solution: He used a collection of our D1100, 1" (25.40mm) dia x 0.5" (12.70mm) thick, and D1155, 1.5" (38.1mm) dia x 0.5" (12.70mm) thick N50 Rare Earth Neodymium Disc Magnets. He mounted them on the back side of the walls and then was able to hang the owner’s collection directly on the wall, like magic! Another great solution!
Challenge: A furniture designer wanted a creative solution to an everyday task, opening drawers without any visible knobs.
Solution: He used our D1155, 1.5" (38.1mm) dia x 0.5" (12.70mm) thick N50 Rare Earth Neodymium Disc Magnets which were counter sunk from the inside of each drawer and then covered over with wood veneer. He then created a 3” dia polished stainless steel knob with our D1204, 2" (50.8mm) dia x 0.5" (12.70mm) thick, N40 Rare Earth Neodymium Disc Magnet embedded in it, which matched the polarity of the magnets within the drawers. Now, to open and close the drawer, he simply moves the knob and it snaps into place. When finished, he hides the knob in the back. What an interesting way to utilize magnets!
